Mind set and frame of mind come up a lot when I am coaching my clients. They are both critical to the success that we achieve, or the failure we feel.
I want to talk about frame of mind first. When you first start any kind of program or just change your way of eating, like when you start intermittent fasting, you have an expectation of the results that you will achieve. We always start in a good frame of mind, like this is going to be great and I will release all kinds of weight. If we don’t see those results, our frame of mind starts to change and we can get discouraged and stop whatever it is we are trying. Sometimes our expectations are way out of alignment of what they should be. I have had clients that are not happy when they are releasing 2 lbs per week because it is not the 5 lbs that they saw in week one. Yet others that are very pleased with a 1lb per week change. So having reasonable expectations helps us to keep in a good frame of mind. Which in turn helps us to stay on track and help achieve the goal you have set. There are always hiccups along the way and challenges that we have to overcome and that is where mindset can help us, or hurt us.
One of the biggest problems many of my clients have is that they have a number in their mind that they always plateau at. Or that they just can’t seem to get past. This is an issue because if you believe that you can’t get past it, even if it is subconsciously, you never will or you will but it will take a lot for that to happen. As soon as a client says oh I have reached the place I always stall, I think to myself crap now they are going to have trouble moving off this number. So to help them I always have to coach them that they need to change their way of thinking about that number and change their mindset about their plateau. There are different techniques for changing mindset, I highly recommend tapping or EFT. Meditation is also a good way. Both can be very effective to make a change.
