Food Combining or Pairing

So today I want to tell you all about my results from this week and talk about food combining or pairing.

So the experiment is going great. I am seeing new numbers on the scale and feeling great. Feeling like I look thinner so again even if it is my imagination it feels awesome!!!!!

I have been sticking to my 8 hour eating window and eliminated wheat, dairy and sugar. I do believe that the sugar was the biggest thing and the hardest to eliminate for me. I do not eat that much dairy to begin with because of a book I read in my 20's. And I only occasionally indulge in bread. I do like my treats though. Salty and sweat are my favorite.

So speaking of the book I read in my 20’s it was called fit for life and I still think back to it occasionally. I was looking for something to educate me about diet. I learned a lot from the book. In general it talks about what you should and should not eat together. Like if you are eating meat you should not have a starch like potatoes. If you are eating bread you should not be eating meat. Things like that. The book also talks about timing of when you should be eating etc. I had a great experience with the program and kept lots of the principles but over the years habits that were not in keeping with the program snuck in and I never corrected them. The one thing that did stick was what I learned about dairy. Most of us believe that dairy is good for us, it is where we get our calcium from. Well I learned that the calcium that is in dairy is not really available for us to digest. So it is not where we get calcium for strong bones. Don’t get me wrong there is calcium in milk but it is not necessarily available for our absorption. You get more bioavailable calcium from eating broccoli than you do from milk. I am not saying that milk is bad for you, although many people do have trouble digesting milk and milk products, I am just saying that they tell us we need it for healthy bones. This I don’t believe to be true.So I did learn early in life that marketing is not really the truth you need to do the research yourself. You can’t believe everything you are told.  You need to read labels and not just the fronts of the box the actual ingredients. But overall you should not be eating a lot that has multiple ingredients. One ingredient like apple or strawberries or beef is perfect.

Now don’t get me wrong there are times that we can indulge but it is not everyday in fact it is not even every week. Many people I talk to about their diet say things like I can’t live without my daily blank. Fill in the blank with whatever it is you don’t think you can live without. But if you really look at it, we can live without lots of things that are not necessary for our survival. That is just a choice that you have made that you decided that you did not want to give it up. If your life depended on it you would give it up without hesitation, or at least most of us would. In actual fact it is a life changing decision to give some things up,  although you don’t necessarily see the results immediately it can extend a healthy lifestyle and help reduce disease in the body.

So in conclusion eat real food, stay away from sugar and try to make sure you get enough water.

Tune in next week for more results and more discussion about food.
