Stop Starting Over
Stop Starting Over: The Weight Loss Reset Women Over 40 Actually Need
How Many Mondays Have You Started Over?
"I'll start again on Monday."
If you've ever said those words, you're not alone.
For many women over 40, Monday has become the unofficial start of another diet, another meal plan, or another promise to "be good."
But by Wednesday, life gets busy. Stress creeps in. A celebration pops up. One meal doesn't go as planned, and suddenly it feels like the entire week is ruined.
So you wait until next Monday.
Sound familiar?
The problem isn't that you lack motivation.
The problem is that you've been taught to believe weight loss begins with food.
In reality, lasting transformation begins with your relationship with food.
My Story: Why I Thought I Needed More Willpower
For years, I believed I simply needed more discipline.
After serving more than 21 years in the military, discipline was something I understood well. I exercised regularly, followed routines, and knew how to stay committed.
Yet despite all of that, I found myself trapped in the same frustrating cycle.
I'd lose weight.
Gain it back.
Start another program.
Lose weight again.
Gain it back again.
Every time, I blamed myself.
I thought I wasn't trying hard enough.
Looking back, I can see that I wasn't the problem.
I was trying to solve the wrong problem.
Every program focused on what I should eat.
Very few helped me understand why I ate, how stress affected my choices, or how to build healthy habits that actually fit my life.
That realization changed everything.
It became the foundation of my 5-Step Strategy.
Why Diets Often Don't Last
Many traditional diets focus on restriction.
Eat less.
Avoid certain foods.
Count calories.
Follow the rules perfectly.
While those approaches may produce short-term results, they often overlook the habits and mindset needed to maintain those results.
Lasting change isn't built on perfection.
It's built on consistency.
When healthy choices become part of your everyday life, you no longer feel like you're "on" or "off" a diet.
You're simply living differently.
Step One: RESET Your Relationship With Food
The first step in my 5-Step Strategy is RESET.
This doesn't mean throwing away every treat in your pantry or following another strict eating plan.
It means changing the way you think about food.
Instead of asking:
"Why can't I stick to this?"
Ask:
"What happened before I made that choice?"
Were you hungry?
Tired?
Stressed?
Celebrating?
Bored?
Those answers provide insight instead of guilt.
And insight is where lasting change begins.
Five Simple Ways to Start Your Reset Today
You don't have to wait until Monday.
Start with one small choice today.
1. Pause Before You Eat
Take a deep breath and ask yourself if you're physically hungry or responding to emotion or habit.
2. Focus on Progress, Not Perfection
One meal doesn't define your journey.
Your next choice matters far more than your last one.
3. Add Before You Restrict
Instead of thinking about what to remove, ask what you can add.
More protein.
More vegetables.
More water.
More nourishment.
4. Speak Kindly to Yourself
Replace self-criticism with curiosity.
Treat yourself the way you would encourage a close friend.
5. Stop Waiting for Monday
The next healthy choice can begin with your very next meal.
You Don't Have to Do This Alone
One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that lasting transformation rarely happens in isolation.
Support creates accountability.
Accountability creates consistency.
Consistency creates results.
Whether your support comes from a coach, a friend, or a community, having someone beside you can make all the difference.

Final Thoughts
Creating a healthier lifestyle doesn't happen because you find the perfect diet.
It happens because you make one small choice after another.
Remember...
Small, consistent choices create lasting transformation.
