Hi I am Katharine and it’s my mission to empower and support mature women to adopt a healthy lifestyle, achieve their weight management goals, and thrive in every aspect of their lives. Subscribe to my channel to learn more.

First things first, let’s talk about what to eat before and after your workouts to maximize performance and recovery. Heading to the gym? Remember to keep your pre-workout meal light and carb-focused. A banana or a small oatmeal can be perfect. And timing? Finish big meals at least 3 hours before you sweat it out!

Now, after you’ve crushed your workout, it’s time to refuel. Protein is your best friend here. Think a protein smoothie or a slice of turkey breast. This helps in muscle recovery and gets you ready for your next session.

But fitness nutrition isn’t just about what you eat around your workouts. It’s about how you fuel your body all day long. Start your day with a solid meal, if you’re a morning exerciser you can wait until after your workout.

And don’t forget hydration. Water is crucial, folks. Not just during your workout, but all day. Keep sipping and keep those muscles happy.

Electrolytes are also part of the game. If you’re doing a long or particularly sweaty workout, an electrolyte drink might be a good call to replenish those essential minerals.

We’ve covered the immediate meals surrounding your workouts, but let’s dive a bit deeper into the building blocks of what should be on your plate daily—macronutrients. Carbohydrates, proteins, and fats play unique and essential roles in your fitness regime.

Carbohydrates are your main energy source, especially important if you’re into endurance sports. Proteins, as we mentioned, are crucial for repair and growth of muscles, and fats should not be forgotten as they help in hormone production and provide a longer-lasting energy source.

While whole foods should always be your first choice, supplements can be beneficial, especially when real meals are not an option or when nutritional needs are high. A word of caution though—supplements are, as the name suggests, supplementary. They are not replacements for a balanced diet. Make sure you know what, why, and how much you are supplementing with any product. And make sure you know what is in your supplements.

Alright, team, that was a turbo-charged tour through the essentials of fitness nutrition. Remember, it’s not just about the exercise. What you eat and drink plays a huge role in how you feel and perform. So take these tips, tweak them to fit your routine, and keep pushing towards your health goals!
